Order limits & upgrades
Every plan except Starter Pro and Pro has a monthly limit on attributed orders — paid orders that include at least one product added through a Summer widget. This page explains exactly what happens when a store goes over that limit.
Short answer: Going over the limit never hides your widgets. They keep rendering, discounts keep applying and analytics keep counting. The only thing that changes is an upgrade notice inside the app admin.
Limits per plan
The proposed plan is always the lowest plan that covers the new count. A Free store that jumps from 50 to 600 attributed orders in one month is offered Starter Plus directly, not Starter.
What happens, step by step
- The order is counted. When an order containing a widget-added product is paid, it is added to the current cycle's count. Orders without a Summer product don't count.
- The limit is passed. The app marks the store as needing an upgrade and prepares a subscription offer for the next plan in Shopify Billing. Nothing is charged at this point — the offer just waits for your approval.
- You see the notice. The next time you open the Summer Upsell admin, an upgrade notice covers the app: it names the new plan, its price and what it adds, with an Upgrade button that opens Shopify's approval screen. You can still open the Pricing page from the notice.
- You approve in Shopify. One click in Shopify's billing screen starts the new plan immediately; Shopify handles proration of the old subscription. The notice disappears.
Is the upgrade automatic?
No. Detecting the overage and preparing the offer is automatic; the plan change itself always needs your approval in Shopify Billing. The app never charges a new amount on its own — Shopify does not allow it, and Summer Upsell doesn't try.
What if I don't approve?
- Your widgets keep working on the storefront exactly as before.
- Discounts keep applying and analytics keep counting.
- Your current subscription continues unchanged — a Starter store keeps paying $9.
- The notice comes back every time you open the app until you approve, downgrade or cancel from the Pricing page.
- If the next billing cycle starts under the limit, the notice clears on its own.
Which 30 days are counted?
Paid plans count within your Shopify billing cycle. The Free plan has no billing cycle, so it counts within the calendar month.
Trial on an upgrade
The 7-day free trial is offered once per store, on your first paid subscription. Upgrading from one paid plan to another keeps only the unused trial days, if any.
Tip: You can upgrade before hitting the limit from the Pricing page — the usage banner there shows attributed orders in the current cycle with a progress bar.
