Post-purchase

Post-purchase upsell

Thank-you

The Post-Purchase Upsell shows on the Shopify thank-you / order status page after the customer completes checkout. The order is already paid — they just see "would you like to add this for $X more?" with one-click acceptance, no re-entry of payment details. It's the highest-trust moment in the entire customer journey.

Thank-You Block

Default

Renders as a theme app block on the order status / thank-you page. The customer sees recommended products with one-click Add buttons that append to their existing order.

  • Works on every Shopify plan.
  • Zero checkout friction — payment is already done, no re-entry.
  • Highest trust moment — the customer just had a successful transaction.
  • Optional countdown timer adds urgency before the offer expires.

Expected AOV impact: 5–15% incremental revenue per order, with acceptance rates of 5–15% on relevant offers. Pure addition to the order — no checkout abandonment risk because the original purchase is already complete.

Best for: Every Shopify store. The most universally-applicable upsell surface.

In the Shopify checkout editor

  1. 1 In the Shopify admin, open Settings → Checkout and click Customize on your live checkout profile.
  2. 2 Use the page switcher at the top to move to the Thank you page.
  3. 3 Click Add app block and choose Summer: Post-Purchase Block.
  4. 4 Switch the page selector to Order status and repeat, so returning customers see the offer too.
  5. 5 Click Save. Place a test order to confirm the block renders.

Two surfaces, one campaign

A single post-purchase campaign can render in two different places, and they install in two different editors. Both are driven by the same campaign — you configure the offer once.

Field Type Description
Thank you page Checkout extension Target purchase.thank-you.block.render. Shown immediately after payment. Reads the just-completed checkout's line items directly, so the offer appears with no lookup delay. Installed from Settings → Checkout → Customize.
Order status page Customer account extension Target customer-account.order-status.block.render. Shown when the customer returns to track the order. Resolves the order's line items server-side to match your campaign trigger. Installed from the same checkout editor.
Theme block Theme app block Summer: Post-Purchase, for themes that still expose an editable order-status template. Added from Online Store → Themes → Customize. Use this only if your store hasn't migrated to the checkout editor.

Which one do I need?: The checkout extension is the path to use on current Shopify stores. The theme block exists for backwards compatibility — if you add both, the offer can render twice on the same page.

About styling: Post-Purchase widgets render inside Shopify's Customer Account / Checkout pages, which enforce your shop's brand settings. To change colors and fonts globally, go to Settings → Customer accounts → Branding. Local color/font fields on the Design tab still apply where Shopify allows.

Why post-purchase converts

  • The risk barrier is gone — payment is approved, the customer is happy.
  • No checkout abandonment — the original order ships regardless.
  • Shopify natively supports adding the upsell to the existing order — no second transaction, no re-entry of payment details.

Optional countdown timer

Add urgency with a configurable timer — when it expires, the offer is no longer available. Studies of post-purchase flows consistently show a 10–20% acceptance lift when a visible countdown is present.
