Automated recommendations

Automated recommendations is the no-credit product source. It shows Shopify's own product recommendations for the trigger product, so it always reflects your live catalog. Included on every plan, Free included.

Modes

• Related products — Shopify's related-products list for the trigger product. Best for "more of what you like" recommendations.
• Complementary products — the complementary products you configure in Shopify's Search & Discovery app (e.g. Cases for Phones). Best for cross-sells. If nothing is configured for a product, related products are shown instead.

How it works

Recommendations are fetched from Shopify when the widget loads, so new products and changes in Search & Discovery show up without touching the campaign. Products already in the cart are left out of cart widgets.

When to use Automated recommendations vs Summer AI

• Automated recommendations — high-volume, zero-cost recommendations that follow your Shopify setup. Good default.
• Summer AI — when you want a curated set picked from your catalog with a plain-English brief, saved on the campaign.
